Rising Sign Calculator
Your rising sign (ascendant) is the face you show the world — the vibe people get in the first five minutes. It changes sign every two hours, so you'll need your birth time and city. Results are instant and free.
Why your rising sign explains so much
Ever been told you “don't seem like” your sign? The ascendant is usually why. It filters everything: how you dress, how you enter a room, the small talk you default to, even the way strangers read your face. A Scorpio Sun with Libra rising comes across charming and diplomatic — the intensity only shows later. A Pisces Sun with Aries rising leads with directness that surprises people who expect a daydreamer.
The ascendant also anchors your chart's houses — the twelve life areas where the planets act. That's why two people with identical Sun signs born hours apart can live such different lives. Get the full layout with the free birth chart calculator.
Rising sign FAQ
What is a rising sign?
Your rising sign — also called the ascendant — is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment and place of your birth. It describes the first impression you make, your default social style, and in traditional astrology it sets the structure of your whole chart.
Why do I need my exact birth time for the rising sign?
Because the ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours as the Earth rotates. A birth certificate time is ideal; even being 15 minutes off can occasionally shift the sign if you were born near a cusp.
What if I don't know my birth time?
Check your birth certificate or hospital records first — many list the time. If it's truly unknown, astrologers use rectification (working backwards from life events), but no calculator can determine your rising sign from date alone.
Is the rising sign more important than the sun sign?
They answer different questions. The Sun describes who you are; the ascendant describes how you arrive. Many astrologers actually read horoscopes from the rising sign because it sets the house layout of your chart — try reading both and see which fits your life better.
