How we write our horoscopes

Most horoscope sites recycle the same vague paragraphs year after year. We built Horoly to do it differently — and to be transparent about exactly how it works.

1. The sky comes first

Every reading starts with astronomy, not vibes. Each day we compute the actual state of the sky with a professional-grade ephemeris (the same math used in planetarium software): the Moon's phase, illumination and zodiac sign, the positions of Mercury through Pluto, and which planets are retrograde. When your horoscope says “the Moon squares your sign today,” that aspect is real and checkable — we publish the day's sky data at the bottom of every horoscope page.

2. AI drafts, grounded in the data

We use frontier AI language models to draft the daily, weekly and monthly readings. The model receives the computed ephemeris as its source of truth — it narrates the sky, it never invents planetary positions. This is the key difference from AI astrology apps that hallucinate placements: our astronomy is deterministic, only the interpretation is generated. Each sign's reading is written fresh for the actual aspects of the day.

3. Editorial standards

Our evergreen content — sign guides, compatibility pages, the learning library — is edited by humans against a style guide with hard rules: no doom-mongering, no fake certainty about your future, no medical, financial or legal directives, and no “the universe has plans” filler. Horoscopes are framed as invitations to reflect, because that's what they are.

4. Where we stand on astrology

Honestly: astrology is not science, and we don't claim otherwise. The planets' positions are astronomical facts; what they “mean” is a 4,000-year-old interpretive tradition that hundreds of millions of people find useful as a mirror for reflection. We treat it with affection and craft — and we'll never tell you to make a major life decision because of a transit.

Our tools are real calculations

The birth chart calculator, full moon calendar and Mercury retrograde dates are computed from the ephemeris at request time — not copied from other websites. Chart calculations run locally in your browser; your birth data is never sent to our servers.
